Tribute to Dr Rae Davis

THE EDITOR, Madam:

THE ADMINISTRATION of Northern Caribbean University expresses sympathies to the University of Technology, Jamaica family on the passing, on April 19, 2021, of former president, Dr Rae Davis.

We pay tribute to him for the indelible mark he has made in the field of education and, especially, education administration.

His 10-year tenure as president of the University of Technology, Jamaica, helped to ensure the successful transition of the institution from college to university.

Dr Davis will be remembered for the critical role he played as chairman of the Prime Minister’s Taskforce on Educational Reform. The taskforce report published in 2004 became the blueprint for the comprehensive reform of the public education system over several decades.

Earlier in his career (1993), Dr Davis spearheaded the Reform of Secondary Education (ROSE) project as the national coordinator. He rose to the pinnacle of education policy- making and administration in the country when he served as permanent secretary in the Ministry of Education.

We pray God’s peace and comfort on Dr Davis’ family and associates during their bereavement, and may his memory be a blessing.
