1972:

Nineteen-year-old Receptionist, Rita Chambers is crowned Miss St James 1972 by unanimous acclaim from a field of eight contestants at the poolside of the Heritage Beach Club Hotel in Montego Bay, in the presence of hundreds of persons. Runners up are Jean Shaw, second and Beverley Bryan third. (See related photo below)

1975:

Proposals for revision of salaries for the Security Forces are tabled in the House of Representatives by Minister of Finance, David Coore. A first phase of increases covering both the Jamaica Defence Force and the Jamaica Constabulary Force to take effect on April 1, 1975 and the second phase from April 1, 1976.

1981:

The Medical Association of Jamaica (MAJ), expresses its disagreement with the strike of junior doctors and called on them to resume work. The MAJ released text of a resolution passed on Sunday June 14 at its meeting to discuss the strike which left public hospitals in a crisis.

1984:

Basil Williams slams and unbeaten 78 to lead Zone ‘A’ leaders Kensington to an easy eight-wicket win over Police in their Sealy Senior Cup cricket match at Kensington Park. Williams, the Kensington and Jamaica captain was in a savage mood as he cracked eight boundaries in his entertaining knock. Scores in the match were Police 106 and 133, Kensington 106
