October is Oral Health Month!

DR WENDY CHUCK-FRANCIS Oral Health Month Chairperson 2023 Jamaica Dental Association

THE JAMAICA Dental Association has partnered with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the dental community to increase the awareness of good oral health through the theme of the World Federation of Dental Surgeons, ‘BE PROUD OF YOUR MOUTH FOR A LIFETIME OF SMILES’. Through several activities to include a church service of praise, worship, and thanksgiving hosted at the Swallowfield Chapel to start the activities, we also participated in a media launch at The Jamaica Pegasus where we reminded stakeholders of the responsibility towards prevention of noncommunicable diseases and called our members to action through ‘NO SUGAR TUESDAYS’. We also laid down a gentle reminder for the completion of the National

School Nutrition Policy. We requested that it be mandatory that children entering preschool provide a dental report.

We will continue our activities with three outreaches in Mount Carey in St James, Ballards Valley in St Elizabeth, and the Clifton Boys’ Home in Darliston, Westmoreland, in service to these communities.

Expect our Symposium on Sunday, October 29, 2023, to allow our colleagues to come together in the pursuit of knowledge and professional development through continued education.

Even though October is Oral Health Month, we continue to advocate for good general health throughout the year.

Practise good oral health for a lifetime of smiles and wellness!
